I painted this work from a photograph I took when I was 16 years old, I had taken the day off school with my friends to take part in the foreshore and seabed Hikoi and took photographs through out the day. This is the largest hikoi I have taken part in during my life time, it was really powerful. When we reached Parliament, a Kuia sat next to me and my friend. She had walked all the way from the far north, she told us stories of her travels to Pōneke. As a young girl this was really inspiring.
